How much does laptop or phone repair cost in Kenya?
Updated
At Emen Shop a laptop repair starts from KES 1,000 and a phone repair from KES 500. Those are starting prices: a screen or battery is priced by the exact model and by whether the part is original or compatible. Whoever you use, ask for a diagnosis and a written price before any work starts, and ask how many months the warranty runs.
Emen Shop’s starting prices
These are the figures the shop publishes. The final price is stated after diagnosis and before work begins.
| Service | From | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Computer and laptop repair | KES 1,000 | 2-48 hours |
| Mobile phone repair | KES 500 | 1-2 hours |
| Data recovery | KES 5,000 | 1-7 days |
“From” is a starting price, not a quote. A screen, battery or board repair is priced for the exact model after it has been looked at.
What decides the final price
Three things move a repair price more than anything else.
- The exact model. Two laptops from the same brand can take screens with different connectors, sizes and prices. Have the model number from the sticker underneath ready.
- The part. An original part costs more than a compatible one and usually lasts longer. Touchscreens and OLED panels cost more than standard LCD screens.
- What else is wrong. A laptop that was dropped may need a hinge or a cable as well as the screen. A good shop finds that in the diagnosis, not halfway through the job.
Five questions to ask any repair shop
Ask them before you leave the device, wherever you take it.
- Will you diagnose it and give me the price before you start?
- Is the part original or compatible, and can I see the old one afterwards?
- How many months is the warranty, and what does it cover?
- Will my data be touched? Should I back it up first?
- When will it be ready, and will you call me if the price changes?
Protect your data first
Back up anything that matters before handing over a laptop or phone, and sign out of accounts you can. If the device will not start and the data is the thing you need, say so at the counter: data recovery is a different job from a repair, and it should be done before anyone replaces a part.
Where the work is done
Emen Shop repairs at its workshop in Ruiru, Kiambu County. If you are further away, the questions above still apply to any shop near you — and a written price before work is the one to insist on.
